On Countdown with Keith Olberman we just watched (with half a smile) as the New Orleans WalMart was being looted. But our glibness was soon replaced with shock as they clearly showed two cops wheeling a cart down the aisle filled with merch and perusing the shoe selection. We’re sure Crooks & Liars will have the vidi. We’ll link to it when it becomes available.

Beware long lines and short tempers. Reports are coming in: gas supplies are running dry in North Carolina, South Carolina, and W. Virginia. Our local price went from 2.76 to 2.99 overnight. We just went out to fill up and it was 3.09 with a small line. That’s 33 cents in 24 hrs. Our advice is get some gas tonight if you’re planning a weekend trip.

Update: Maryland also. 3.96 per gallon in Michigan.

…they don’t exist! While our President finally decides – a week late – to “work” on the immense disaster that Katrina left in her wake, Democrats ,taking their cue from the Chief Vacationeer, are showing absolutely no leadership whatsoever. Oil companies are already gouging up to 25 cents a gallon (while they get tax credits in the billions from Bush), the commander of Northern Command is sitting still until the Preznit decides to “step it up”, an estimated million will be homeless, possibly thousands are dead, homeland security – that we’ve spent so little time and money on – has bungled the attempt to plug the levy because there were “too many chef’s” and they’ve been relying on civilian methods of communication that don’t work when there’s no power, and the rapture Right blames the whole thing on Gays and abortion noting that a satellite image of the storm resembled a fetus. This has been nothing short of a MASSIVE FAILURE on the part of the President. And to think his brother Jeb is the hurricane expert. The national guard is over in Iraq dealing with another “unforeseeable” disaster that is being paid for by the domestic funding and tax cuts earmarked to shore up the levy that would have prevented the flooding. And this is interesting – the new Bush Federal Bankruptcy rules go into effect next month making it next to impossible for the victims of this disaster who have literally lost everything to get relief unless of coarse they sit through credit counseling. Add another million to the million just reported added last year to the poverty level. All this and not a peep from the Democrats. Nothing! Nada!

We like to do a mash up of greats to describe our picks so… Salle meets Rauschenberg with a touch of DeKooning. Paintings that fill the head cart.
(And some photos too).

Probably the last thing on MTV we waited religiously for every week is about to be REALized.

“Created by Peter Chung, Aeon Flux debuted in 1991 as part of MTV’s Liquid Television. Aeon Flux is an assassin whose futuristic espionage adventures set records for cartoon body counts. Long-legged, wasp-waisted and spidery, she wears a skimpy chastity belt, disregarding its traditional purpose in the extreme. With overtones of fetishism and sado-masochism, Aeon is sexy, cool and often ruthless. ”

…of Kentucky. Who needs Democracy when you can just proclaim a monarchy. Henry VIII just made up his own religion when he didn’t like the rules. King (Gov.) Ernie Fletcher (R) gives out jobs to his political cronies, gets busted, then pardons everyone, even those who have not been charged and may be in the future. Unfortunately for the King there may be federal charges that he doesn’t have jurisdiction over, so thankfully the investigation goes on. Score a half point for Democracy.

Once again a conscientious whistleblower critical of the White House (in this case Halliburton) is demoted. There’ll be no Medal of Freedom for this soldier. Hopefully the Dems are keeping a list of all the good folks who will have to be re-promoted when they take back the White House.

More brilliance from MoDo.

“You’d think that by now, watching the meshugas in Iraq, the Bush crowd would have learned some lessons about twisting facts to suit ideology, and punishing those who try to tell the truth. But they’re still behaving like Cinderella’s evil stepsisters, who cut their feet to fit them into the glass slipper: butchering reality to make the fairy tale come out their way.”

The smear campaign continues and it gets more vile every day. What’s interesting is that these wingnuts are not espousing their pro-Bushness, it’s personal, they are simply Anti-Cindy. And now there’s a “you don’t speak for us Cindy” caravan of Cindy haters on their way to Crawford.

We love AmericaBlog but rarely are they this funny:

How many Bush Administration officials does it take to screw in a light bulb?
by John in DC – 8/25/2005 05:02:00 PM

None.

Nothing is wrong with the light bulb; its conditions are improving every day.

Any reports of its lack of incandescence are a delusional spin from the liberal media.

That light bulb has served honorably, and anything you say undermines the lighting effect.

Why do you hate freedom?

(Just something cute someone emailed me)

I just got emailed an updated, and better, version from Stephen:
How many Bush administration officials does it take to change a light
bulb?

1. One to deny that a light bulb needs to be changed;

2. One to attack the patriotism of anyone who says the light bulb needs
to be changed;

3. One to blame Clinton for burning out the light bulb;

4. One to arrange the invasion of a country rumored to have a secret
stockpile of light bulbs;

5. One to give a billion dollar no-bid contract to Halliburton for the
new light bulb;

6. One to arrange a photograph of Bush, dressed as a janitor,
standing on a step ladder under the banner: Light Bulb Change Accomplished;

7. One administration insider to resign and write a book documenting
in detail how Bush was literally in the dark;

8. One to viciously smear #7;

9. One surrogate to campaign on TV and at rallies on how George Bush
has had a strong light-bulb-changing policy all along;

10. And finally one to confuse Americans about the difference between
screwing a light bulb and screwing the country.
