And in the spirit of the GOP alternate reality, where lies are truths and traitors get Medals of Freedom….

The Cartoon Laws of Physics
If I shoot you and my defense argument was that “I forgot that guns shoot bullets”, would that fly? How about, “I forgot the gun was loaded?” or, “I honestly can’t remember shooting that gun. I’m not saying I didn’t, just can’t remember doing it”. How is this shit passing as any credible defense. These crooks are caught red handed knee deep in their bullshit and no one in the make believe world of the media can come straight out and call these guys LIARS. They are LYING, LYING, LYING. Say it, it doesn’t hurt, and it would be doing what they won’t, telling the truth. Novel.
Is it a lie to say you can’t remember to avoid lying? Funny thing how most of these moments of forgetfulness happen under oath.
Telling the truth is not a GOP value.
Any thoughts? »
“The decision makers in this case were the attorney general and the counsel to the president,” he told the Senate Judiciary Committee. “I and others made staff recommendations but they were approved and signed off on by the principals.”
The White House response was notably muted.
“I’m going to have to let the attorney general speak for himself,” White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.
So Gonzales is a liar, the only thing they have left is to smear this guy as a… wait for it…. LIAR.

As an update to the previous post. TPM’s Josh Marshall broke this story. About how the furniture story was just that, a furniture “story” to cover for the fact that the $140,000 contract was really for an Anthrax screening facility for the President’s mail. The idea is that the mail would be rerouted to a mid-west facility where it would be opened by a staff wearing hazard suits who would then scan it and sent it off to the White House. Not a bad idea actually. However it still smells, wouldn’t you assume the cost of a no-bid government contract for this purpose would be in the $millions$ range? Let alone the fact that a job as serious and classified as this going to a political crony who had never held a Gov’t contract or dealt with tainted mail.? I still say this is a straight up payoff for Cunnuingham’s boat and the mail story is just another line of BS to add to the stinking pile that is the Cheney/Rove/Gonzales/Duke Cunningham scandal (jeez this thing is growing some serious tenticles). It just gives all the more credence to the case as to why they fired Lam.
This is so bizarre on so many levels…

…eminating from the mouths of lunatics. The prez just gave a rambling cherry picked assessment of how wonderful it’s all going in the country that didn’t attack us, and that we need to be there forever, just give it a chance. McCain gave an equally glowing and bizarre assessment of a sunday stroll in anytown Iraq.
“There are neighborhoods in Baghdad where you and I could walk through those neighborhoods, today,”
The Raw Story | Audio: John McCain says…
Reality check:
And despite John McCain’s happy talk about how safe Iraq is, McCaffrey offers another assessment:
The government lacks dominance in every province, he added. One result is that “no Iraqi government official, coalition soldier, diplomat, reporter, foreign NGO [nongovernmental organization], nor contractor can walk the streets of Baghdad, nor Mosul, nor Kirkuk, nor Basra, nor Tikrit, nor Najaf, nor Ramadi, without heavily armed protection.”
Militias and armed bands are “in some ways more capable of independent operations” than the Iraqi army, he added.
US facing “Strategic Peril” in Iraq says General McCaffrey
And this from the man who “strolls” daily in Iraq:
“Honestly, Wolf, you’ll barely last twenty minutes out there. I dont know what part of Neverland Senator McCain is talking about when he says we can go strolling in Baghdad.”

Waxman Demands Info Linking White House To Cunningham Probe And Possible Attorney Firing:
We noted the following information that stemmed from Lam’s investigation into former Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-CA): the White House awarded a one-month, $140,000 contract to MZM contractor Mitchell Wade, who had never previously held a federal contract. Two weeks after Wade got paid, he used a cashier’s check for exactly $140,000 to buy a boat for a now-imprisoned congressman (Cunningham) at a price that the congressman had pre-negotiated…
…Published reports suggest that the contract was to provide computers and office furniture to the Office of the Vice President.
Looks like the VP better come up with a receipt from Ethan Allen, quick!

The Victorian Surrealism Of Jeffrey Micheal Harp
There’s something very Gulf of Tonkin about all this. So 15 sailors are out on patrol with no back up? No real time intelligence as to who else is in the area? There’s AWACS planes that can pinpoint every canoe within 500 miles and they don’t know that SIX Iranian vessels are closing in on them? Theories aside this is at least massive incompetence in how to deploy a “patrol”. Which might answer the question why the blustering bully Bush rhetoric has been silent on this one. Oh, and wouldn’t those pesky Geneva Conventions come in handy right about now?
