I tell our daughter–after Wm. S. Burroughs father’s advice to him, as his father lay dying: “Stay out of churches, dear; the only thing they have a key to is the shithouse. And promise me you will never wear a policeman’s badge.”
Amelia quite enjoys all this; we’ve had to amend our restrictions to include serving in the military: “If you want to do public service, do something honorable, like running numbers. At least THEY are gangsters we know….”
