Major hardware issues around here the last few days so I’ve been out of commission. All seems to be returning to normal. Regular posting will resume shortly.
TV critic David Bianculli offers a favorable review of FAIR advisory board member Tim Robbins’ no-holds-barred keynote address at the conference of the National Association of Broadcasters. (Listen to Robbins’ speech as an MP3 or WAV file.) Robbins opened his speech “apologizing” to Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly and other right-wing broadcast pundits:
“A few years ago, they told America that because I had different opinions on the wisdom of going to war, that I was a traitor, a Saddam lover, a terrorist supporter, undermining the troops.
I was appealing at the time for the inspectors to have more time to find those Weapons of Mass Destruction. I was a naive dupe of left-wing appeasement.
And how right they were. If I had known then what I know now, if I had seen the festive and appreciative faces on the streets of Baghdad today, if I had known then what a robust economy we would be in — the unity of our people, the wildfire of democracy that has spread across the Mideast — I would never have said those traitorous, unfounded and irresponsible things.
I stand chastened in the face of the wisdom of the talk radio geniuses, and I apologize for standing in the way of freedom.”
All that and more from a former tapehead.

Last Night ABC dealt a death blow to the Main Stream Media. In a pathetically transparent hit job on the Democrats, Stephanopolos and Gibson chose to take the entire first hour on a substance free tabloid style hay ride through Wingnutingham. Any window of credibility left open has been slammed shut. This event will go down as a major moment in the abandonment of traditional news media.
Some reactions.
This a technical post so ignore it if you’d like, just posting this to help out any others that are having problems.
Just did the latest wordpress 2.5 upgrade and ended up with a blank screen, the site was literally completely gone. In the past I would just upgrade by adding in the new files overwriting what’s there and leaving what’s old that didn’t get overwritten, thinking that if it’s not in the new version the old stuff isn’t going to be used. Bad assumption. You must erase all your old files except wp-content folder, htaccess, as they recommend. Then upgrade. At least that’s what worked for me. Anyway, that was scary. Hope this helps someone.
In progress on a new theme installation, the old one was bogging down with a number of issues. Bear with as it’s been a while since I’ve dealt with wordpress.
