Watching men’s Olympic swimming, I overhear a woman in the room, “it’s a sad state of affairs these new suits, don’t like ‘em, not one bit.”

I often pride myself on being quite the headline writer, but sometimes, it’s best to steal.

Presumptuous!

I remember reading some stuff recently about how it was unseemly for Barack Obama to go on an overseas trip. Why, he was acting like he’d already won! Now, we have McCain making statements on television that are having an actual impact on an international crisis, and which might even be illegal, and I’m hearing gasbags say he looks very presidential. It looks more like presumptuousness to me.

There has always been this media driven meme that starts with the base assumption that the troops are Republican from birth. Yes, it has been so at times, but so has “Republicans are fiscal conservatives” and that certainly has never quite matched the meme.
So how this squares with media “reality” I can’t figure. But I do know the meme will continue to fly in the face of this very unserious and unpatriotic result.

Sometimes the garden of life needs tending. Tilling, plantin’ seeds, nurturin’ and all that.
Well, I’ll be refreshing myself with the latest crimes and crimes that are not crimes, Russian-doll-country wars, absolute forgeries of absolute evidence of absolute crimes that aren’t crimes. Sort of a russian doll theory of criminality - the more you uncover the smaller the crime gets. ?

Anyway, til then, here’s that song, y’know that song?

And so once again my friends, highly treasonous, deadly, impeachable offenses have been (allegedly) committed yet impeachment is “off the table”.

Careful not to be sick. Poor John McCain couldn’t possibly keep up with the task of being a Presidential candidate. His horrible minions are surely shielding him from everything that’s going on his, y’know, campaign. Besides, if he knew what was going on in his own campaign it would offend every fiber of his moral being, and he would surely not stand for any of that unpatriomaverickyness.

My G-d, if McCain were in the room I think a spontaneous group blowjob would erupt.

Atrios asked this morning, “Does anyone understand why Obama suggesting that people keep their tires properly inflated is some sort of hilarious gaffe?”

I’ve been trying to figure out the same thing for days. As the Obama campaign kicks off “energy week” with a new contrast ad and a policy speech in Michigan, Time’s Mark Halperin reports, “McCain supporters in Michigan will distribute tire gauges at Obama’s energy speech in Lansing. The RNC will also deliver gauges reading ‘Obama’s energy plan’ to Washington newsrooms.”

I’ve been trying to figure it out myself and other than the literal embodiment of grasping at wispy strands of vegetation as they fall down the canyon, I just don’t get it. But what I do know, and what everybody else knows, is…
tires are black!

Your must read for the weekend.

“McCain’s primary talent has always been his ability persuade simple-minded people (i.e. his media cheerleading claque) that he is flipping or flopping as a matter of great personal principle and at great possible cost to his political career – even as he has used his various flips and flops to climb the greased pole and become the presidential nominee of his party.”

Two branches of government against one.
Bush loses his hocus pocus theory of executive privilege, a theory originally cooked up by Cheney to defend his boss Nixon’s criminality, no mention of “executive privilege” or “unitary executive” in the Constitution (while we’re at it no mention of “torture” or “spying on Americans” either). But Bush will surely appeal and then it goes to the Supreme Court where the partisan Republican activist flunkies will happily go on the record once and for all as anti-constitutionalists. A fitting end for the Bush Era.
